The TUKANGBESI archipelago, also known as WAKATOBI, name made out of the initial letters of the main islands in the archipelago, was defined to be "the best diving in the world" by diving pioneer Mr. Jacques Ives Cousteau.

This group of islands, some inhabited by local fishermen, others totally deserted, has it all from the tiny harlequin ghost pipefish, the pigmy sea-horse and the frogfish, to the whale shark. Everything a diver wishes to find in a trip: walls, pristines reefs, quiet beaches, drift diving,...etc

The island of Hoga is home to the Operation Wallacea: a special Research Program to preserve the ecological balance of this group of untouched islands, and its unique coral reefs and autoctonous life.

In the Tukangbesi you can still visit the Bajaus. Sea-Gipsy people who spend their whole life living on their boats and stilt houses.

This is the one mandatory site for very keen divers!

Undercurrent Magazine has named Tukangbesi ais the "Epicentre of Marine Biodiversity in the world" and has awarded it with 3 sets of 5 stars as diving destination.
